Teaching Sit, Down, and Stand.

Teaching your dog basic obedience commands like sit, down, and stay is valuable for several reasons:

Better Control: These commands help you manage your pet as they encounter different situations throughout the day. They help to keep your dog safe and make it easier for you to control them when on a walk or at the dog park.

Improved Social Skills: Obedience training teaches your dog to greet people and other dogs in a calm way with manners. This makes it possible for you to take your pet to dog-friendly public parks, events, and businesses, or bring them along on hiking and camping outings.

Safety: Even a well-behaved dog could bolt if scared. A dog that will return to you when called can make the difference in a dangerous situation1.
Solid Foundation: Working with your dog and practicing obedience commands each day using positive reinforcement builds a solid base that helps both of you deal with different situations you may face.

Understanding Your Dog: Obedience training gives you an opportunity to spend quality time with your dog. You can better understand their body language and the unique signals they use to communicate with you.

Closer Bond: Statistics show that owners with behaviorally sound pets get more satisfaction and have a stronger bond with their pet2.
In conclusion, basic obedience training not only makes living with your pet more enjoyable and less stressful, but it also helps your dog gain self-confidence and be happier1. It’s a win-win situation for both of you!

I was really bad in school.

No really, I was a terrible student and was basically ushered through high school, handed a diploma, and sent on my way.

You may think this is unfortunate.

I think it was a good thing because I think it has helped me with my chosen profession. Because of my struggles, I’ve needed to learn how to break things down to make them easier and it allows me to help people who may be having a difficult time with their dog.

It also has helped me keep things simple and dog training is no longer simple.

It has become a confusing and complex subject… which it is NOT!

Anyway, here is my take on teaching the basic stationary commands: sit, down, and stand.

They may seem like simple commands but this video will surprise you on what you and your dog need to know to do them. Here is what you’ll discover in this informational video:

Why 90% of dogs I meet can’t do the sit command… and how to fix it 1:05

Why teaching sit, down, and stand is like writing a story. There is a beginning, a middle, and an ending to the command. Your dog has to understand all three 2:02

Why you should never correct the dog in the early stages of teaching sit, down and stand 3:37

Why you should never force your dog into a down 4:20

Simple way to teach your dog the down command 5:37

Why you should not say, “Down,” when you first start teaching your dog the command 5:54
